In the front of the note on the right of the banknote is a stylised image of the crowns of Mary and the Child Jesus, based on the painting of Our Lady of Częstochowa, supported by angels. In the top part of Mary’s crown – the stars are printed in iridescent ink and are visible depending on the angle of view. In the lower part of the note are stylised lilies, and against this background is a field with fragments of the Marian monogram, which is visible as a whole when viewed against the light (recto-verso). To the right of the crowns is the number: 20, in the lower part a rectangular field filled with lines with a visible stylised leaf. Against the background of the field, is the number 20, visible depending on the angle of view. Above and below the rectangular field is microlettering with the repeated inscription: POD TWOJĄ OBRONĘ (Under Your Defence).
In the back of the note in the central part of the banknote is a drawing from 1717 depicting from the left the illumination of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Częstochowa at Jasna Góra, and on the right, a view of the altar. Below the drawing is repeated microlettering with the inscription: NARODOWY BANK POLSKI. Along the right edge of the drawing is the repeated inscription: 300-LECIE KORONACJI OBRAZU MATKI BOŻEJ JASNOGÓRSKIEJ (300th Anniversary of the Coronation of the Icon of Our Lady of Częstochowa). Above the drawing is the inscription: Narodowy Bank Polski; to the right of the inscription, in microlettering, is the repeated inscription in wavy lines: NBP. Below the drawing on the right is the clause: BANKNOTY EMITOWANE PRZEZ NARODOWY BANK POLSKI / SĄ PRAWNYM ŚRODKIEM PŁATNICZYM W POLSCE (Banknotes issued by Narodowy Bank Polski / are legal tender in Poland). To the left of the inscription is a separated white field with fragments of the Marian monogram, which is visible as a whole when viewed against the light (recto-verso).
